A message from our founder
Ten years of making a difference.

We're 10 years old! A whole decade gone by... Emajjin started its journey with a desire to make a difference in the lives of disabled or disadvantaged children.

Emajjin has always allied with small Canadian charities. Organizations working assiduously and with integrity, to change the trajectories of children experiencing deprivation in the areas of education, shelter, health, and protection from violence, in Canada as well as internationally. Organizations that daringly endeavour to change the paths of children who, through no fault of their own, are caught in the crossfires of man-made geopolitical clashes, natural disasters, or the age-old social and economic vagaries that often define human beings at birth.

"The team" at Emajjin feels very privileged to have traversed the road that we took. On our journey, we were honoured to meet some incredible people. Ordinary people, doing monumental work, often under dangerous conditions. We were privy to stories that were devastating and others that were inspiring. All of them have left us humbled.

Emajjin's efforts have touched hundreds of children in Canada, Ghana, Haiti, Sri Lanka, India, Cambodia, Peru, Nepal, Philippines, and after tonight, Tanzania.

Thank you for being here. You humble us with your generosity.

Words of gratitude
What they said

Tumaini means hope in Swahili — hope for a secure future. Together we make a difference in the lives of children who are less fortunate. We bring them hope. Your generosity will help us to provide healthy meals to the families and children we serve. The brilliant sparkle of the Emajjin Glitter and Gold Gala can be found in the eyes and hearts of the children you provide hope for today and in all of their tomorrows. Asante Sana — Thank you very much!

About the event
Glitter & Gold — A milestone evening.

Ten years after our first gala raised $15,000 for the Sanfilippo Children's Research Foundation, Emajjin gathered for its most significant milestone yet — the 10th Anniversary Glitter & Gold Gala at Parkview Manor. The evening celebrated a decade of giving, a decade of community, and a decade of changing lives.

This gala was originally planned for 2023 but was postponed to February 25, 2024 — making it all the more special when the Emajjin family finally came together in full force. The evening featured live music by Northern Reflections, a live and silent auction including a Tanzanian oil painting donated by Tumaini and an Olympic gold medal jersey worn by Shelina Zadorsky, and the warmth of a community that has grown together over ten remarkable years.

About the charity
Tumaini Children's Foundation

Tumaini means "hope" in Swahili — and hope is exactly what this remarkable organization delivers every day. Tumaini Children's Foundation is a volunteer organization founded in Norfolk County, Ontario, providing support for families and children near Usa River, Tanzania, Africa.

Tumaini supports 55 children who reside at their orphanage, ranging in age from 5 to their mid-20s. They also do outreach to support children within their own homes so that they may have clean water, healthy food, health care, and access to education. Children receive a home, all medical treatments, and the opportunity to gain marketable job skills for life after graduation.

For Emajjin's 10th anniversary, Tumaini represented everything we've stood for since day one — a small, fiscally responsible, community-driven organization doing extraordinary work for children who have no one else.
